A Meetup alternative for spontaneous, small plans
Meetup is built around communities and recurring events. forrealz! is built around single plans that anyone can post. Here is how the two compare, and when each one fits.

Meetup organizes people into interest groups. An organizer sets up a group, schedules events, and members RSVP. It works very well for hobby communities, talks, workshops and the tech scene, and it has a large international user base.
forrealz! has no groups and no organizers. Anyone can post a plan, called a Drop: an activity, a venue, a time, a group size and an intent. People nearby can ask to join, and the person who posted decides who comes. That makes it a good fit when you want something smaller, closer to today, or with more say over who attends.
People who look for a Meetup alternative usually want one of three things: plans that happen this week rather than weeks ahead, a small group instead of a crowd, or a way to meet people without depending on an organizer.
How a plan works on forrealz!
You post a Drop, for example "bouldering, Thursday 7pm, up to four people, new friends". Posting takes about a minute and is always free. People nearby see it in their feed and send a Pick to ask in. You see each profile, what you have in common and their Trust Tier, and you approve or decline. An approved Pick becomes an Encounter: the confirmed meeting, with the venue, the time and the people. An hour before, Focus Mode opens with preset messages such as "I'm here" and a live location.
If you do not have a plan of your own, you can Pick one that someone else posted. Drops can be scheduled up to 12 months ahead, but most are for the coming days, because that is when people are free.
The same evening, two ways
With Meetup
Find a group that matches your interest, RSVP to an upcoming event, and meet the community there. Good for regular, recurring activities.
With forrealz!
Post "coffee at a cafe in Neukölln, Saturday 11am, two people, new friends". Approve one of the people who asked. Meet at the cafe on Saturday. Good for a single plan on short notice.

Already have a group? Bring it
Many people already have a group: a running crew, a book club, or a Meetup group that has settled into a core of regulars. Planning often moves into a messenger group, where a quick "who is in on Thursday?" can be hard to answer.
forrealz! can help with that as well. Add your people with invite codes, put them in a Friend Circle, and invite the whole Circle to a Drop in one tap. Make the Drop friends-only if it is not for strangers, or leave a seat open for someone new.
Which one fits you
Meetup is a good fit if you:
- want a recurring community around a topic, with a shared calendar and many members
- are looking for talks, workshops or tech events, especially in English
- organize a group yourself and want tools for announcements and a member list
forrealz! is a good fit if you:
- want to meet a few people this week around one concrete plan
- prefer to choose who joins you
- want to say up front whether you are looking for friends, networking or a date
- want to bring friends you already have into a single plan
Plenty of people use both: Meetup for the community, forrealz! for the Thursday.

Frequently asked questions
Is there a free alternative to Meetup?
forrealz! is free to start: posting a Drop is always free and your first 3 Picks are on us. There is no organizer subscription, because there are no organizers. Anyone can post a plan.
What is the best Meetup alternative in Germany?
That depends on what you want. For large recurring interest groups, Meetup still works. For meeting a few people this week over something concrete, forrealz! is built for exactly that, runs fully in German and English, and started in Berlin.
Is forrealz! for making friends, or is it a dating app?
Both, and you say which. Every Drop carries a declared intent: new friends, dating, networking, activity partner, language exchange or spontaneous. Everyone who asks to join sees it before they Pick.
Can I bring a group I already have?
Yes. Add your people with invite codes, put them in a Friend Circle, and invite the whole Circle to a Drop in one tap. A Drop can also be friends-only, so your Thursday plan never has to live in a messenger group where nobody answers.
Why does forrealz! not have an open chat like other apps?
Open chat produces weeks of messaging that never becomes a meeting, and it is the channel scammers and fake profiles need. Removing it removes both, so every plan stays focused on an actual meeting.
Does forrealz! work outside Berlin?
The app works anywhere. Berlin is where most Drops are right now, because that is where we started. If nothing is near you yet, posting a Drop is how it begins.
